Road trip at the island of Usedom (Wolin)

29th of May 2024

 

In the morning we made a short stop in the city center of Świnoujście to wash our clothes and to buy something at the Polish market. In addition we had luck to park in front of a park with a great playground for Lotta. 

At the lunch time we reached Ahlbeck with a great pier and a wonderful small city centre. Here we took our lunch, fish and knuckle of pork. In the afternoon we visited the town Benz with him famous St. Petri church. Next we drove back to the coast and had a stop at the Zempin beach. Here our children took a bath in the cold Baltic Sea.

Back at the road we left the island Usedom in Wolgast. In Wieck a district of Greifswald we found our overnight spot.

Road trip Mecklenburg-Vorpommern / Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

In the morning we walked through Wieck a district of Greifswald and found a wonderful playground with an amazing ship. At the lunch time we visited the historical centre of Greifswald. Here we had an extensive walk through the historical centre and took ou lunch in front of the St. Marien church. Next we walked through the ship museum port back to our truck.

In the afternoon we drove continue to Stralsund. Here we had again an extensive walk through the historical centre of Stralsund. In Stralsund we found an overnight spot the backyard of a residential zone near by the rail station.

Road trip Mecklenburg-Vorpommern / Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

31st of May 2024

 

After the breakfast we drove continue through Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). We made our first stop in Graal-Müritz before noon. Here we visited the beach of Graal-Müritz and bought ice cream, pickled herring and a bratwurst. After an extensive time at the beach be continued our road trip to Warnemünde. To reach Warnemünde we had to take a ferry. In Warnemünde we drove continue along the coast to Heiligendamm. In Heiligendamm we found a great overnight spot directly at the coast. 

In the evening we had a wonderful walk at the beach up to the promenade of Heiligendamm. Here we had again an ice cream for Lotta and an espresso for my self.

On the way back to our truck we had a video call with our family and were able to enjoy the sunset together with our family.

Road trip Mecklenburg-Vorpommern / Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

01st of June 2024

 

After the breakfast we drove continue through Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). We made our first stop in Wismar before noon. After Stralsund, Wismar is our second stop in a historic old town that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old town of Wismar is impressive and right at the beginning we found a beautiful fountain that Lotta had a lot of fun with.

In the afternoon we left the Baltic Sea and visited Wiligrad Castle on the Lake Schwerin. Here we took our afternoon lunch, ice cream, cake and espresso. Next we visited Schwerin with its wonderful and fairytale castle. After three attempts we found a place to stay overnight between the zoo and the local indoor swimming pool.

This daily road trip was scenically impressive. We started in Schwerin and continue through Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Our first stop was Hagenow, a beautiful town with a great playground in the city park. Next we drove to Darchau were we crossed the river Elbe by a ferry. At the next waterside we drove to Medingen and visited the castle and the horses farms. At the end we found our overnight spot in Bad Bevensen.

In the morning we drove to Uelzen with its famous train station. The Uelzen train station was constructed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and looks like a train station built by children. Next we visited the city centre of Uelzen. 

In the afternoon we had a stop at the Tankumsee near by Isenbüttel. Here we had a wonderful time, a great swimming lake with a lot of attractions and playgrounds. We also met very nice people who played with Lotta and talked to me.

In the evening we overnighted in front of the zoo of Essehof (Tierpark Essehof) near by Lehre.

In the morning we visited the Zoo Essehof (Tierpark Essehof) and we were very impressed. This zoo is simply wonderful. Wonderful animal compounds, amazing aerial parks and great playgrounds with nostalgic carousels. 

In the afternoon we acrossed lower saxony (Niedersachsen) until Goslar. In Goslar we visited the historical centre. The city centre of Goslar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as are the cities of Stralsund and Wismar, which were already visited. The old town of Goslar is impressive and right at the beginning we found a beautiful playground.

In the evening we found a great overnight spot in Bad Gandersheim. Here we had an extensive walk through a wonderful park.

05th of June 2024

 

In the morning we wanted to go swimming in the outdoor pool in Bad Gandersheim, but the pool was closed. So we drove to Einbeck, where we could go swimming in the public pool. Unfortunately, the indoor pool was closed and we could only swim outside by cold temperatures and moderate rain.

In the afternoon we drove to the natural park Solling-Vogler (Naturpark Solling-Vogler) and here we visited the small zoo of Neuhaus (Wildpark Neuhaus) with local fauna and flora. The moderate rain continues. Next we left lower saxony (Niedersachsen) and arrived North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen) by crossing the river Weser between Lauenförde and Beverungen. 

In the evening we found a great overnight spot at the Diemel lake (Diemelsee) near by Marsberg. From our overnight spot we had a wonderful view over the Diemelsee.

Road Trip Western Germany

06th and 07th of June 2024

 

We were woken up by the sunrise and were able to enjoy the fantastic view of Lake Diemelsee from our bed. Next we visited the ski resorts Willingen (Upland) and Winterberg within the Sauerland mountains. Here we went on the summer toboggan runs and had fun on the several playgrounds.

In the afternoon we visited Berleburg Castle in Bad Berleburg and took a drive through the beautiful old town. In the evening we found a great place to stay overnight in Herold, right in front of the small zoo. Here we spent a wonderful evening with very nice people and funny goats.

The next day, our last day of the road trip, we drove straight home to pick up our family from the different schools.
