Road trip Crete

Date 18th of October 2020

Early in the morning we reached the harbour of Souda on the Isle Crete. Shortly after we reached Chania and here we had our first crash witch our truck. We had overlooked the signboard of an Olive-Shop. The signboard and our roof railing were damaged. Only one hour later everything's was cleared, with the Olive-Shop Owner, the police and the insurance company.

In the afternoon we drove along the coast of the Gulf of Kissamos and had our lunch break in a beach restaurant at the beach "Paralia Nopigia". In the evening we found a wonderful overnight spot directly at the Falassarna beach.

Road trip Crete to the Elafonissi Beach

Date 20th of October 2020

A breathtaking along the west coast of Crete, from one amazing beach "Falasarna beach" to the next amazing beach "Elafonissi Beach". The winding road along the coast led silence nature and led cliffs directly above the sea. We took more than four hours for the 54 km distance in order to enjoy the fantastic nature and view.

In the afternoon we enjoyed the warm sea within the many bays and the gently sloping sea at the beach made with million of corrals. Our overnight spot was in between rocks with labyrinthine ways to the sea.

Falasarna Beach -> Cape Akti -> Sfinari -> Moni Chrisoskalitissis -> Elafonissi Beach

Date 22nd of October 2020

The morning has been started with rain and we were back on the road. Our target was to fulfill our storage and to reach the next beach. The road led us through the inland of crete, awesome mountain landscape with an amazing nature. In Kalathenes we had a lunch break within a local restaurant with local specialities.

The trip through the mountains was intensive and time-consuming but nevertheless breathtaking.

We reached our overnight spot in the darkness by taking an unmade road. We don't knew how looks out overnight spot, a surprise for the next day.

Elafonissi Beach -> Kefali -> Kalathenes -> Balos

Date 23rd of October 2020

We were woke up with the sunrise. We had overnighted at the Balos beach trail Viewpoint with the view to the Isle Tigani and the sea. Before 10 a.m. we started the trail down to the Balos beach. Finn has started the trail down a little bit later. The trail was stony and sharp descent but the view was magnificent.

We spent the whole morning, noon and afternoon at the Balos beach. Everywhere stood sun loungers and we were alone. We enjoyed the time, an additional great family day at a dream beach.

In the afternoon we drove forward and we were able to see the complicated street which we have took in the night before.

In the evening we took a camping ground for the night, again directly at the sea.

Road trip Crete to Matala

Date 25th of October 2020

One time across the Isle Crete, from the North to the South. We left the Platanes Beach with target Matala Beach. Maybe Matala Beach is the famous beach of Crete because in the sixties and seventies many famous musician have lived in the caves of the cliffs rounding the matala bay. In the afternoon we have reached Matala Beach and had started with a lunch in the sand followed of ice cream. After this we climbed from caves to caves at the cliffs.

Our overnight spot was a toll parking area at the beach.

Date 26th of October 2020

A very short road trip from Matala Beach to Kommos Beach, from one wonderful beach to an other. Before starting this short trip we were again in the caves of the cliffs around the Matala bay. In the afternoon we jumped to Kommos Beach were we found our overnight spot in the sand of this beach (our truck has 4x4, four-wheel drive). 

At the beach around our truck everybody was busy to build something with the sand in the evening we played a soccer match until the sunset.

Date 27th of October 2020

At the morning we done an extensive walk at the beach and found a sel-mad bakery in the sand. And the baker was a german individualist called "Kuchen Uwe". We had a talk together by eating cakes. At the noon time we drove forward to Pómbia we we bought a bike for Lotta. 

In the afternoon we visited the historical Knossos, maybe the oldest colony in Crete. Focus was the palace of Knossos, famous from the Greek mythology.

In the evening we overnighted at the harbour of Iraklion.

Date 28th of October 2020

Our last day at Crete. We still stayed at the harbour of Iraklion with our truck. After the breakfast we have bought tickets for the Ferry to Piraeus. The harbour of Iraklion is rounded by the city centre. 

In the morning we walked mainly along the harbour and the sea promenade, here we were able to buy something for the lunch. In the afternoon we visited the city centre respectively the commercial pedestrian area. Iraklion is a great city ideal to visiting everything per pedes.

Our ferry has been departed very late, at 10 p.m.
